I help young BIPOC men and women develop a better understanding of who they are because I see the value of self-awareness and personal growth.

Q&A with Sinthuja

For starters, tell me a little about yourself

My educational background includes a MA in Counseling Psychology from Yorkville University, a BSc in Psychology and Biology from University of Toronto and a postgraduate certificate in Mental Health Intervention from Seneca College. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO and a member of the CCPA.

What's your therapeutic style? What's your approach to therapy?

I provide individual therapy to the youth and adult population and know that no single approach is the right one for every individual. Thus, I use a collaborative and eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from multiple theoretical orientations and techniques in accordance with client goals and expectations such as CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, client-centered, and interpersonal. My main theoretical framework is surrounding a client-centered approach.

What mental health concerns do you specialize in?

I provide psychotherapy services to individuals ages 16+ across Canada. I specialize in supporting those who experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues, women's health concerns, anger management and domestic violence. I also provide support for coping skills, family conflict, stress, emotional disturbance, grief, life transitions, self-esteem, peer relationships, trauma & PTSD, divorce, and sexual abuse codependency.

What's the best compliment you have received while being a psychotherapist?

Clients have expressed feeling comfortable and safe in the therapeutic environment, enabling them to build rapport with me easily.

What can clients expect when they work with you?

My background combined with life experiences equips me to focus on my clients with a non-judgmental stance to help them overcome their emotional distress and behavioral concerns.

What are some therapeutic values that you bring to the table?

I am passionate about de-stigmatizing mental health in minority populations and working with BIPOC/non-BIPOC individuals. I believe clients are the experts of themselves and in their healing. I learn from clients’ experiences to develop a better understanding of who they are and how they developed their worldviews.

Why choose you?

When individuals experience life stressors or challenges, it can be very daunting and their lives may seem to unravel. An important first step in the journey of recovery and self-discovery is talking about it with someone. As a Registered Psychotherapist, I provide ethical, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care through a client-led practice, including accommodation of, and respect for differences in opinions, values, and attitudes across various cultures in a cooperative, anti-oppressive practice.
