Nicole finds that building and encouraging resilience is an important part of the therapeutic process. Here is how she achieves that in the therapy room when working with clients.

Q&A with Nicole

For starters, tell me a little about yourself

Hi, my name is Nicole Chiappa and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University and have also completed my Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) certification. I am currently completing my masters degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University.

I have always been passionate about understanding people’s stories, what shapes them, what they value, and how they grow. My background as a behavioural therapist has strengthened my belief in the power of empathy, structure, and creativity in the healing process.

Outside of work, I enjoy yoga and pilates, hiking, and long walks with my dog. I also love spending time with friends and family, which helps me stay grounded and connected.

What's your therapeutic style? What's your approach to therapy?

In my work with clients, I take a client-centered approach, creating a space that feels safe, collaborative, and empowering. I often integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, tailoring each session to meet your unique needs and goals. I personally use CBT strategies such as deep breathing and cognitive reframing in my own life, which makes me passionate about sharing these practical tools with clients. I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical, offering strategies that can be applied in everyday life.

Why did you choose psychotherapy?

I chose psychotherapy because I believe in the importance of being truly heard and supported. I’ve seen how healing it can be when people are given space to share their story and explore challenges without judgment. Helping others reconnect with their strengths and move toward the life they envision feels deeply meaningful to me.

What’s your best skill in psychotherapy?

One of my strongest skills is helping clients feel understood and supported from the very beginning. I listen closely, reflect thoughtfully, and work alongside clients as a team to uncover strengths and possibilities they may not see in themselves. My ability to blend empathy with structure helps clients feel both cared for and motivated.

What can clients expect when they work with you?

Clients can expect a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where their voice matters. Together, we'll explore challenges at a pace that feels comfortable, while also identifying practical strategies and tools you can use outside of sessions. My hope is that you’ll leave each session feeling heard, supported, and encouraged.

What are some therapeutic values that you bring to the table?

I bring empathy, authenticity, and collaboration to every session. I value respect, inclusivity, and open mindedness, approaching each client as the expert of their own life. I also value resilience, and I strive to help clients recognize their own capacity for growth and change.

Why choose you?

Clients choose to work with me because I balance compassion with practical support. I meet you where you are while also encouraging you to take meaningful steps toward your goals. My integrative approach, drawing from CBT and solution-focused therapy, allows me to tailor therapy to your unique needs so that you feel supported, empowered, and equipped to create change.
