Q&A with Nicole

For starters, tell me a little about yourself

Outside of work, you can usually find me spending time with my family and friends, planning my next trip, or enjoying a yoga or Pilates class. I love being outdoors, whether that means going for a hike, taking a long walk with my dog, or simply enjoying some fresh air and sunshine. I’m always up for exploring new places and making new memories, but I’m just as happy spending a cozy evening at home with the people I love. I believe some of life’s best moments are found in the simple things, and, of course, my dog would probably agree, especially if there are treats involved!

My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology from York University and a Master of Arts (Honours) in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

I have always been passionate about understanding people’s stories, what shapes them, what they value, and how they grow. My background as a behavioural therapist has strengthened my belief in the power of empathy, structure, and creativity in the therapeutic process. I value creating a space where people feel safe, heard, and supported, and I believe that every person’s journey is unique.

What's your therapeutic style? What's your approach to therapy?

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and client-centred. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you explore your experiences, challenges, and goals. I integrate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy, tailoring my approach to your individual needs and what feels most helpful for you.

I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical. While having a space to feel heard and understood is incredibly important, I also want clients to leave sessions with meaningful insights and practical strategies they can carry into their everyday lives. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where you feel comfortable being yourself, while also feeling empowered to take steps toward the changes you want to make.

Why did you choose psychotherapy?

I chose psychotherapy because I believe in the power of being truly heard and supported. Everyone carries their own experiences, challenges, and stories, and I have always been drawn to understanding what lies beneath the surface. I have seen how meaningful it can be when someone is given the space to share their story openly and explore their challenges without fear of judgment.

Being able to support someone as they reconnect with their strengths, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and move toward the life they envision is incredibly meaningful to me. I feel honoured to be able to walk alongside clients during some of the most important chapters of their lives.

What’s your best skill in psychotherapy?

One of my strongest skills is my ability to create a sense of comfort and connection with clients. I listen closely, remain curious, and genuinely want to understand each person's experience from their perspective. I strive to create an environment where clients feel comfortable being open and honest, even when discussing difficult or vulnerable topics.

I also bring structure and practicality into my work. I believe empathy and action can go hand in hand, and I enjoy working collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, explore possibilities, and find strategies that feel realistic and meaningful for them.

What can clients expect when they work with you?

Clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where they can show up as they are. You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy, sometimes figuring it out together is where the work begins.

Together, we will explore the challenges you're facing at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Depending on your needs and goals, we may work through thoughts and patterns, explore emotions and experiences, or identify practical strategies that you can use outside of sessions. My hope is that you leave each session feeling heard, supported, and encouraged, with a greater sense of clarity and confidence in your ability to navigate life's challenges.

What are some therapeutic values that you bring to the table?

I bring empathy, authenticity, curiosity, and collaboration to my work with clients. I value creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and openness, where clients feel comfortable bringing their whole selves into the room.

I also value inclusivity and recognize that each person's experiences, values, relationships, and life circumstances shape the way they experience the world. I approach each client with curiosity and without assumptions, while recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. Above all, I value resilience and believe that people have the capacity for growth and change, even when that path may not always feel clear.

Why choose you?

I believe clients may choose to work with me because I offer a balance of warmth, compassion, and practical support. I strive to meet you where you are while creating a space where you can feel comfortable exploring the things that may be difficult to put into words.

My approach is collaborative and flexible, drawing from CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. I believe therapy is not about having someone tell you how to live your life, but about having someone walk alongside you as you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, recognize your strengths, and work toward meaningful change.

If you're looking for a therapist who will listen without judgment, celebrate your progress, and support you through both the challenges and the small victories along the way, I would be honoured to be part of your journey.
